OFFICERS DENY RACISM IN LAWRENCE PROBE The Metropolitan Police have denied that corruption or racism influenced the investigation of the murder of the black teenager, Stephen Lawrence.
The rebuttal follows yesterday's attack on the force at the public inquiry into the teenager's death.
Michael Mansfield QC, for the family, said racism hampered the 1993 investigation from the start.
Officers have admitted, however, that they made serious mistakes.
