SPLIT SHIP SPILLS OIL OFF TURKISH COAST
A Russian tanker has broken into two
in a storm off Istanbul and is spilling
oil into the Sea of Marmara.
Fifteen people were rescued and nobody
was injured. But coastal officials fear
4,365 tonnes of fuel are leaking.
The front half of the 3,463 tonne
Volgoneft-248, sank in stormy seas.
The vessel had been swept off course by
severe winds and ran aground near the
Bakirkoy district. Oil has been
reported on the coastline.
