 THE DOOM GENERATION ---------- *** ----
                                        
 1993 The release of Id Software's Doom 
 on the PC not only kick-starts a new   
 genre, but is (justifiably) hailed by  
 many as the best game of all time. In  
 addition, it further opens up the      
 possibilities for on-line gaming.      
                                        
 Hardware newcomer 3DO ushers in the 32-
 bit age by releasing its absurdly over-
 priced 3DO console (£600!).            
                                        
 The 32-bit age looks like it'll soon be
 over when Atari launches its 64-bit    
 Jaguar machine. But of course it wasn't
 to be - not with Atari being involved!
