 POLICE - "WE HEIGHTENED THEIR DISTRESS"
 A senior police officer has apologised 
 to the family of murdered footballer   
 Lawrence Haggart for the mishandling of
 inquiries into his death in 1996.      
                                        
 Deputy Chief Constable Mike Currie     
 spoke after the release of an          
 independent report into the actions of 
 the Central Scotland force.            
                                        
 He said; "The Haggart family expected  
 and should have received a much better 
 performance from us.                   
                                        
 "This heightened their distress at an  
 inconceivably tragic time."
