HIGH POUND HURTING UK TOURIST INDUSTRY
 Britain's tourism industry is being
badly hit by the strength of the pound.

In its annual report, the British
 Tourist Authority says although the
number of visitors has risen, spending
 has remained flat.

It estimates that the rise in the value
 of sterling against other European
currencies will have cost Britain more
 than £850m.

It may also have prevented the creation
 of up to 30,000 jobs.
