 MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE SCOOPED BY GOMEZ   
 New band Gomez has scooped the Mercury 
 Music Prize for best album of the year.
                                        
 The five-piece band's first album Bring
 It On beat established rivals like The 
 Verve, Robbie Williams and Catatonia.  
                                        
 Their accomplished swamp blues has won 
 widespread acclaim and made them late  
 favourites for the £25,000 prize.      
                                        
 Keyboard player Ian Ball said the album
 had been recorded in his father's      
 garage. "It's ridiculous that we are   
 here," he said.
