The officers, at Glenochil Prison in Clackmannanshire, were disciplined after the voice recorder was discovered on Christmas Eve by prisoners.
They were given a severe reprimand by Scottish Prison Service officials, a spokeswoman for the service confirmed.
The officers' action had not been authorised, the spokeswoman added.
